Wonder why I had stopped blogging, used to be great until sometime :)

This time around its our maiden foreign trip that has brought back the blogger in me.
It all started with our son talking about Australia while he was 3yrs old, as if he has some link to that place. We heard him out and then the usual vicious circle of life, never got a chance to travel. Then it was my mother's wish, I knew I had to work this out but it was way beyond what we could comprehend.

The idea went into the burner.
2 years later, we realised, everything happens in due course and we are always running for something, not reaching anywhere :)
This time around, we took the plunge! First step, renewed passports, then checking for budgeted tickets for travel. After researching a lot on the prices, we decided it gonna be 'Air Asia', did not realise it was a trap though.

Lesson learnt that Air Asia charges for every thing, check in luggage, meals, seats!! phew!! Its better to spend more and settle for a carrier that accommodates check in luggage in the flight charges.

Before travelling, we had our concerns on the foreign currency usage while in Australia and which would be the most economical one, we were fortunate to have figured out the 'Forex Card' :) As such HDFC guys said, use the chip based credit card, should be easy, they don't tell you about the markup charges and conversion charges ;)

Best part about Forex card, we load the currency that we wish and the amount. Now we have a limit and we will definitely work on those lines. whereas credit card, we do not know the exact amount that was used for a transaction and we will have a shock in store once we are back from our trip. This is the best travel tip that I wish everyone travelling abroad is aware of.

The D-day arrived! At the Immigration counter, we got our passports stamped for the first time :) What a feeling!!!
Later we reached KL airport, transit for 3 hrs was well made of. We tried the Soup there from Noodle outlet, served by an Indian :)
It tasted yummy. We hopped onto the next flight to Sydney, all excited :) Arrived Sydney Airport and then the Immigration counter, this time around, nervous hubby of mine, since he has heard so many agony stories of how people have been questioned about their luggage and all that trauma. I took control, walked first and the officer in charge was interested to know the address where we will be staying, saw that and we are all good. We step out, find my Uncle waiting!!! :) All of us are relived.

Oct 11th, 10pm we reach Uncle's home, cousins, aunt are all super happy seeing us. We are too excited to sleep, my uncle says we need rest otherwise it'll spoil the trip :)

Oct 12th: There's a cold wave there and we are feeling the pinch. Uncle takes us to Cataract Dam ( provides water to the Macarthur and Illawarra regions, the Wollondilly Shire, and metropolitan Sydney) The drive is beautiful and the place is good to start our trip with. Camera rolling, pictures taken, we head towards the sky diving centre, that was in my wishlist. They said climate is not favourable and we need to wait until next week.

Oct 13th: Uncle's bday, we take a break, prepare Indian food, visit to local store and Siju's craving for the Australian food started :)

Oct 14th: We head to Feather dale Park, see the Kangaroos, Koalas and we get to touch them, feed them! Ivan is so excited and happy, its great to see him :)

Oct 15th: Visit to Schogetten chapel and what a serene place :) Its beautiful. Then we head to BLUE MOUNTAINS, its great to see the 3 sisters, this place is named after the Aboriginal tribal women.
Next we head to Katoomba Scenic World and finish Skyway, Cableway, Walkway and Railway. These are unlimited rides, we did not know this :D
And the best way to try the steepest railway is going down than going up. We get to view the rain forests with all this and the view is breathtaking!!

Oct 16th:
Online offer for 5 places i.e. Sydney Sealife Aquarium, Sydney Tower, Sydney Skywalk, Manly Sea Adventure, Madame Tussauds, Wild Life Zoo for 70$ was a steal :) Best part we get 30 days to finish them, we need not rush. More details

OPAL cards: Load it, use it across the trains, ferry to travel around Sydney. Tap it and Tap out, simple.

Sydney Trains for the first time and we head to our first
destination, Sea life! The sting rays, jelly fishes, sharks, dugongs,
worth every penny :)

We head to the China Town from there, walking along the Darling Harbour and the CBD comes alive! Its a great atmosphere, just walking there.

Next we goto Sydney Tower, 3D movie about Australia then the view from the tower is splendid.
We had to finish the Skywalk too, but we skipped that. Next was Manly beach on our mind.

Took the ferry from Wharf 3 to Manly Beach, the journey to Manly Beach brings us to the Sydney Opera house, harbour bridge and Luna park. Click click....clicking again :)

Crystal clear water, not so crowded beach and lovely weather. Aah! Wish we stayed there for some more time. Exhausted we head back home.

Oct 17th:

Drive to Canberra, on the way we see Kangaroos on the highway. They are like the stray dogs in our country, lying dead. Not a great sight!

2 1/2 hrs and we reach Parliament House, we park the car at the basement of the parliament house!!! Wow, cant imagine something of tht sort. Step into the parliament, history retold in pictures, wall paintings, we are allowed to see the session too but we were hungry, skipped that.

On the way back we goto the Mary's Church
Kangaroos flocked around, this time hopping along with their joeys. Lovely :)
Thank God for helping us with this travel, spend time at the church and we head home.

Oct 18th:

Shopping at Minto mall for the gifts for the folks back home.

Oct 19th:

We explore Syndey on our own, without Uncle alongwith us. Use Opal app, plan the travel and 3 of us in the Sydney train and at CBD. Voila!! :) We did it. So proud. To figure out route to Sealife, walk through Queen Victoria Building after getting down at Town Hall Station.

Next with a pep talk with a New Zealander, we reach our destination, instead of GPS ;)
I prefer talking to people and it worked.

Have the exclusive Australian food at Cargo Bar, head to Madame Tussauds, it was wonderful. Especially the Master Blaster, Glen McGrath, Shane Warne together :)

Next the Wild life which is adjacent, after visiting Feather dale, this is not so interesting. This did not match our expectations.

We take the ferry, go to Circular Quay. Walk to Sydney Opera House and walk back through Botanical Garden :)

All of them at home were worried about us, new comers in Sydney but guess what, Adventure worked out :)

Oct 20th:

Chit chatting with family, old stories, boot hill visit, elaborate Lunch the Aussie way.

Oct 21st:
Shopping at Mccarthur Square and its tough to find stuff which is not made in China :P
Quality is great but folks back home would grumble. Our search continued.

Oct 22nd:
We end buying Chocolates at Aldi and sure that this will not bring up any complaints. Start packing and then our luggage has increased leaps and bounds :D

We still have plans to buy stuff from duty free!

This was the coldest day, Uncle sets up the fireplace at home, barbeque is on with the coals, its a great feeling! Food, conversation....did not realize the day ended.

Oct 23rd:

Day started with a prayer and blessing of the house. Much required for all the blessings that we had and the travel that we were to start.

Farewell, that's tough. Hugs and tears, we leave home.
We are privileged to see the Sydney Traffic the last day when we are heading to the Airport ;) Bangalore feeling already.

Duty free store in Sydney Airport and we add to our luggage. Ideally we should have bought in KL.
It was cheaper too, realized that after coming there.

That night we reach Bangalore, exhausted but the routine feeling sets in...

Next day, School, Office.......

We witnessed the rains!! And its affects. What we did not know that we were in for the experience of a lifetime. This was a trip that was extremely different, the travel bug in me is taking a break for sometime.

Day 1, we start our journey from Bangalore to Karwar. The Driver was constantly talking to this passenger who was next to him, and the bus was moving slower than the man walking on the road. Many complained, only to be told that the driver knew what was best. We reached Ankola, and there the Bus broke down. We were moved into a new Bus, then we reached Karwar..almost..few kms away from it when the Bridge was overflowing and the route to Karwar was blocked.

We were stranded in that Bus for quite smtime, spoke to the Driver who by now gave up on taking a reverse and going back to a nearby city. Luckily, we found this Volvo going back, and a good samaritan who let us in. This Volvo had ppl enroute to Goa. All worried faces, starved and very restless. We joined them, got dropped at Kamat.

Kamat Hotel looked like a refugee camp, and there we met this extremely helpful person. By now, our phones were dead, zero network and all the charging points had a queue. He helped us first, by getting food ontime :)
Then, informed us about the places closeby where we could get to and also access to the nearest Bus stop. Also, knew that the trains to Goa also were cancelled because of landslides.

We got onto the main road, and got into a Bus to Hubli, then the good times were back. We reached Hubli, got into a decent lodge. Had food finally, then got back to Bangalore.Trip ended, much earlier and most important we were back home..all safe..almost. Pri has had an injury in the past during a trip, and now again. Hopefully she shud be fine..

So, we all are back to our cosy home and to speak about a bad trip but tell you what? My friend who is a localite of Karwar is still in shock. The houses in Karwar have been washed away, loss of lives. And all this, when these ppl are staying here for so many years. She says, even during rainy season it hasn't been this bad. Its the first time in 100 years!!

On the entire trip, we were really really fortunate and thankful to God.
All that relief efforts that we see on TV is nowhere close to what is required. I pray, that man who gave us water and his thatched house is still there...safe and sound.

hmmmm...yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-31965054933464885522009-08-16T16:17:00.001+05:302009-08-16T17:03:57.496+05:30Into the wilderness...14km of River rafting in Kali River and my swimming practice in a river that was 70feet deep!! What more can be more adventurous I ask for now? There are many yet to be explored I realise, means more trips :)

As per the package and the season, we were told that the river rafting wudnt happen. With the rest of the planned activities, we headed towards Dandeli. This place located 481km from Bangalore and more abt this place at http://www.dandeli.com/

WHole bunch of absolutely fully faltoo jokes and the gr8 company marked the entire trip with an amazing experience for a lifetime.

Day 1:

We finished the Coracle ride with a very humourous guide, who splashed water on the crocs to make sure we dint mistake them for artificial ones. The Jungle Safari with the running commentary from Dileep and our 'bul-bul', turned out to be a laugh riot ;)

Spotted few bisons, lotta peacocks, few jackals, lotta monekys and few deers. The animals were not interested for the human safari then, most of them dint come out to greet us. We tried hard and spotted a few. The journey in the Jeep wuz fabulous, breeze and all that added affect of the jungle.

Campfire by the night and our version of 'truth or dare.' And so many spoilsports, I tell you. Still some of the secrets did cm out..hehe..

Day 2:

River rafting, by the Kali river. We split into two teams and there wuz a competition between the two rafts. We were headed by Mohammed, who provided crystal clear directions for "FORWARD", "BACKWARD", "HOLD ON" and many others. All of us got into the river and we had to be rescued back by the team mate as part of practice. The star of the day was Dileep, who was so relieved to be rescued back and vouched for the fact that he would never want to step into the water without knwin swimming.

I tried my hand at the backstroke, and realised it wuz too great to just float there and just do nuthin..woooow...loved it to the core.

The best part, goin thru those rapids!!! All that rowing, splashin water at our opponents..my..my..absloute fun. 14km wuz too less...

Spoke to Mohammed, he said they have started a 18km river rafting in Goa now. http://goarafting.com/ Other rafting points at Coorg as well.
Ones heading to these places, dont miss out on this...

Journey back and we had a 'LINDA BADMAN' at work. Jayant, and his wild guesses were inspired by too many hackneyed theories that he has. Provided fulltu entertainment though,as we were nearing Blore and there wuz depression written all over. I wished the trip continued for long u knw....yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-14404685341364322782009-01-21T10:44:00.006+05:302009-01-21T10:57:31.781+05:30Did I stop blogging??Bad habits, die hard...just have another blog id,

http://thotsfor2day.blogspot.com/yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-51846576126707915162008-09-07T16:13:00.009+05:302008-09-07T17:08:03.459+05:30Trivia for the traveller....Free Diving in Cyrpus promises an adventure. This place has very hospitable people and they are very fun loving too. In one of their traditional ways, the men perform a dance together and at the end of which break glass plates continously. This act of breaking plates was done to help them overcome the grief of losing their loved ones during war. It is still followed by them and reminds them of the community that underwent such painful incidents in the past.yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-8056664755246960342008-07-04T16:30:00.003+05:302008-07-07T12:35:36.445+05:30Barista, CCD v/s Dosa Camp...Along the quiet roads of Cambridge Lyt, there is a famous hang out.Dosa Camp, the road side food joint. Modernisation happened, too many "Kewl ppl" thot this is gonna turn out to be the next hangout here. And it dint end there, adjacent to the CCD a Barista came! Rivals rite next to each other..

Picture this, even after the two 'paamus' coffee shops...Dosa Camp still gets more customers than them. One can see the waiters at these places staring at Dosa Camp and wondering.."Usme aisa kya hai, ki hum mein nahi hai?" :Dyezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-38216332506963608592008-05-08T23:59:00.005+05:302008-05-09T00:18:19.726+05:30Its all about PI....Ever wondered if one could have a secured space on the web for dumping your personal information? By then, i wuz only on calls n msgs and the alarm bells strted ringing loudly in my head this time.Harshi n Ammu joined in as well, next Pri n me. Lastly shilps had to be picked, by now the chit chat and all the excitement already in the air.

We landed at Kemmangundi after tht splendid drive thru the Ghat section, simbly soooooperb i say. Then we checked in, an hour late than the time we expected to.Tht day after the amazing oota and ofcourse majjige which Jo seemed to finish one after the other, we headed to hebbe falls. That as per plan, which later turned out to be a lovely trek over the deserted hill on the way to Hebbe falls. Oh tht trek wuz perfect beginning, completely in sync wid the adventure tht wuz to unfold.

Evening my idea of walking upto Shanti falls, this wuz an unexpected one.We strted walkin up and Shilps, me heading the gang. And me reminding ppl tht we were nt there to take picz of every leaf and every ant on the way. Yeah i know i wuz just too tuff on everyone askin 'em to move it all the time.

Then suddenly realised, the way back in the jungles without torches wud be too much to take in.Bcuz of the route tht we had to head back wuz way too adventurous so we made it..i mean just made it in the rite time by then we were welcomed by Glow worms on the way. Lovely sight to see! Oh reallllyyy..wonderful..And thankfully just the glow worms welcomed us and not the leeches n snakes tht the place is actually famous for ;)

Then we had lotsa drama in Room1, with the two best actors part of the nautanki. We enacted the famous Deewar dialouge with a twist. This time completely Hatke..full bollywood ishtyle.Lol..And the very famous 'back to back' picz. This highly confidential. ROFL..

Dunno when the next day began, destination Kalhathi falls. Nothing wud be predictable thts wot the whole mantra wuz, not much there so we headed to Bababudangiri. Again surprises in store, we lost our way reached Mulhangiri this time. And this by far wuz the best place in the trip, drive to the peak of this hill wuz amazing. Cant find adjectives to describe tht feelin within..Speechless..

Clouds in ur reach, and u at tht level of happiness. We walked thru the 1000 odd steps and everyone in chorus wuz in awe of this place. Wuz beautiful so to say the least..

Then on the way back halted at Belur, Halebid for few min. Headed home with a gr8 feeling and sense of achievement tht this unpredictable trip turned out to be the most exciting and fun filled. THE END? Naaah..therez lots to follow with this lovely gang who believes in going with the flow :)yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-42420776917242271402008-04-24T11:54:00.002+05:302008-04-24T12:20:00.437+05:30So how did you come??This dates back to my school days in Hyderabad, my usual way of gettin to school wuz like the millions of others in the School bus itself. Then bcuz of the new home far away frm school, got travellin by the local bus service. Even if this wuz the option, one of those days just decided to walk it up. And by walk i mean, reach until the Airport then mostly wud get picked by one of the Uncles there. So there has been an instance of a ride in the Fire Engine, goin thru the run way and alight at the end of airport. Then walk it up again until home, mom wud be waiting with snacks bcuz child has travelled so far with so much of difficulty(unaware of the "Fire engine rides"). During days of Sankranti, dont prefer rides in the airport but walkin just to collect the Kites lyin there :)

And this reminds me, have travelled in a police jeep also. Now most of my frenz wud ask, wotz new? For all tht i do, shud be prisoned but those were the days during the VIP movement at Hyd. Narasimha Rao wuz expected to take tht route, all the buses to tht route were cancelled and me kept waiting there even after knowing tht, hopin for a bus. Told ya, wuz school goin and had sm test on that day. Suddenly this police jeep came by, cop told me: "Bachi ghar jaao" but me dint move an inch. Later he offered a pick up to 3 of them standin at the bus stop, me hopped in too. Got dropped at school too and happily walked up. Took few yrs to realise, tht wuznt such a wise thing to do.

Also while I was at this bus stop, four of my teachers were there too. They got an Auto after waiting for a very long time, wanted to take me along bcuz it wuz too late by then. Now the prob wuz that 4 of them already, so driver suggested 'let the kid sit infrnt' and me then sat alongwith driver and reached safely. Now all this isnt such a big deal, but got reminded of all this with a trip to my old home i.e. Hyderabad after 12 yrs....yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-74135514822141447342008-03-31T12:15:00.000+05:302008-03-31T12:41:07.130+05:30Jnanashrama, Home for the Aged...Spoorthi relives good old days with gud old frenz!

Jnanashrama, Home for the Aged at Banerghatta Road is where we all were heading to on Mar 30th, 2008 as our activity after the last one for Xmas. As per the pilaan, we all reached Diary Circle. There Abhay with the new hippie look, Cool Kish, Dileepa and the McAffee boy had decided to lead the way to this place as we were not sure of the route.

Car wuz filled with the gifts that we had decided to give. Previous day, Suri, Rathi and Rathi's fren shopped for cotton sarees and dhotis. Must say it wuz gud wrk done with the selection of sarees! Take a bow ppl..hehheee..
We also got sm snacks for them, all this wuz loaded into the car.By now Harshi, Ambika, Me n Pri decided to travel in bus. So there we all got started, rest of them along with Jo and her cute lil cuzin went ahead in the car.Reema "Khan" joined us at IIMB and we all reached Jnanshrama easily.

As we just landed there, we were greeted by the cook of tht place. He inturn called the head of this place and then when we got talkin to him realised this wuznt an NGO but the ppl here had to pay for their stay here. Initial deposit of 10000/- and 750/- per month. Hmmm...for a min we thot mebbe it wuz a wrong place bcuz spoorthi always went to places where service to the unfortunate wuznt cmin at a price.

We were taken to Padma amma's house first, here we were told tht each of the 32ppl living there is given individual houses to stay. Padma amma welcomed us cheerfully and this lady was a storehouse of happiness and talent. Mebbe they know the predictable questions being asked first, she started off sayin..shez here bcuz after her husband's death she dint wanna depend on nethin but wanted a silent "vaathavarana". She wuz from Mysore and narrated few incidents of the Mysore history. When we asked her to sing, she said she doesnt know any of the "halli" songs but shez frm Mysore city and Blore city.

She went onto sing beautifully and blessed all of us thru tht song. There we got to see the sign of independence tht existed in her and the others which we realised in hours to come. We thot instead of meeting each of 'em at their houses, it wud be better to meet all of 'em together so the coffee time at 4pm wuz just right.

There as we started serving snacks, pop came the question from an old dignified man asking us the purpose of the visit and we did manange to convey our intentions to the crowd there. During the tea time, we distributed the gifts to the 17 ladies and 15men there also the snacks. By now it wuz raining heavily, but tht wuznt a spot of bother at all for us.

We met lotta ppl, a professor, a retd HAL employee, this old man who said who has travelled 3/4 th of the world and since hez a bachelor hez in this place. And this enthu pataks ajji from Mangalore. Such a sweetheart she wuz, said "Athe Maava avarannu Kathe kathe antha nodbaardhu, avaranna amma appa tarah nodbeku" hope me spoke Kannada :D

She wuz a bundle of fun and excitement. Asked her age, she said 18 then asked us to reverse it ;) And yes there was one ajji who poured her heart out to Jo and Jo did a gr8 job of listening to her and comforted her.

All of us got talkin to most of 'em there and realised the conversation just went on and it wuz more on their personal achievements and not necessarily abt hw their sons, daughters or daughter in laws had ill treated them.

Be prepared for the unexpected, this place is filled with Independant ppl with choice and not without choice.Quite an experience for all of us and with God's blessings everything worked out best!

Kudos to Spoorthians :)yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-54143351388442186592008-03-10T16:49:00.000+05:302008-03-10T17:26:43.776+05:30Find of the day!Today me wanna share this piece of info. While working on my comp(am using Windows O.S.), me bumped into a conclusion that while I drag a folder onto the right/left most edge of the desktop a tool bar is created with all the contents of the folder shown there!!

And this I shared with a fren at wrk, who is mighty pleased bcuz this would mean listing out all the contents of the folder which she has to use more often.yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-55570492474192152002008-02-18T14:18:00.000+05:302008-02-18T14:32:19.404+05:30Yeh hai Mumbai meri jaan....Definitely recall the B&W song abt Bombay( Now called Mumbai!! Reason? Let's nt get into tht..)

Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan

(Kahin building kahin traame, kahin motor kahin mill
Milta hai yahan sab kuchh ik milta nahin dil) -2
Insaan ka nahin kahin naam-o-nishaan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Aye dil hai..

This City and the ppl here hv always been in news for many unfortunate incidents in the recent past. But I must say, I strongly believe tht the average mumbaikar is no less than a hero literally. Yeah wot wid the entire bollywood in one place, but my definition of the hero wud be much more than the 70mm screen...

They hv seen it all, riots..blasts..natural disasters. Still not over, sm insane politicians getting cheap publicity out of the lower middle class society. The Thackerays need to be punished bcuz their war against non-marathis resulted in the death of an employee of HAL who himself wuz a marathi!!!!

So who are they fighting against??? 10,000 ppl hv already vacated the city and gone back to their "ROOTS"! At this age of globalization where does one belong???

Does it really matter??yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-50219544916074959472008-01-30T23:14:00.000+05:302008-02-20T12:36:41.350+05:30'All I want to do, ever, is play chess.'<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdxCdjpi0SyNIRh6Y_uLm6eZIqGnPlV1lvGr3Z48yIhflKApyc8P8OXxza5hW33F2SVO7_72i1a20l7z55hdZYvp4h9vb3YhIrZCOxZz-7OKq2ucVl9Y9RhtLL2OAkd6GuccjG9w/s320/_44364806_magnum_one_use.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161330578387068578" />
Bobby Fischer, who has died at the age of 64 on Jan 17th, 2008 was a talented chess grandmaster once hailed as an American hero for breaking a Soviet dominance of the game that had lasted nearly 30 years.

Volatile and impetuous

Born in Chicago in 1943, Bobby Fischer was a chess genius from the beginning, playing from the age of eight.

He was US junior champion at 13 and open champion at 14, a title he won seven more times.

He became a grandmaster at 15, but was already showing himself to be volatile and impetuous, often turning up late for or walking out of matches.

His victory in 1972 was unexpected, as every world champion since World War II had been from the USSR, and seemed a foretaste of a promising career.

But the man who once said that "all I want to do, ever, is play chess" played precious little of it at international level after he won the world championship in Reykjavik in 1972.

Instead of capitalising on his win, Fischer withdrew from competition. Three years later, the World Chess Federation stripped him of his title for failing to defend it against Anatoly Karpov.

Since then, apart from the Fischer-Spassky rematch in Yugoslavia in 1992 that provoked the wrath of the US government, America's greatest chess player made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Reclusive

Until Fischer was detained in July 2004 while trying to leave Japan with a revoked US passport, his whereabouts had often been a mystery.

His reclusiveness, his anti-Semitic diatribes in radio interviews and - most unforgivably for his fellow countrymen - his support for the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US all tarnished his legend.

"This is all wonderful news. It is time to finish off the US once and for all," he told a radio station in the Philippines after learning of the attacks.

The former grandmaster did not age well

BBC journalist and chess expert David Edmonds, co-author of the book Bobby Fischer Goes To War, says Americans were profoundly shocked by the transformation.

"To many people, he had been an American icon in 1972. The match had been presented as a classic Cold War battle," he told the BBC News website.

"The Soviet Union had held the world chess title since World War II and chess was an enormously important propaganda tool. Lenin was a keen chess player, so was Trotsky - even Karl Marx himself played chess.

"Bobby Fischer was held up as an archetype after that, and many people view what has happened to him with great sadness. They feel he has been letting not only himself down, but the US down as well."

Certainly Fischer's behaviour in later years was irrational to such an extent that many questioned his sanity. He repeatedly claimed that he was being hounded by a Jewish conspiracy, despite the fact that his mother was Jewish.

Even in his heyday, he was known for making unreasonable demands at tournaments, complaining about everything from the lighting of the hall to the amount of prize money on offer.

Ruthless

Fischer also had a gladiatorial view of chess. "I like the moment when I break a man's ego," he once said in an interview, adding to the sense of theatre surrounding him that helped elevate the game from an obscure pastime to worldwide front-page news.

Fischer (right) was a gladiator of the chessboard

"He did enjoy humiliating his opponents. He could sense when his opponent was crumbling before him," says David Edmonds.

"But his style of playing was never flashy for the sake of showing off - it was clean, logical, ruthless and efficient. There was nothing ornamental about it," he says.

Despite the scale of his downfall, Fischer continued to inspire successive generations of chess players.

Many continued to see him as an artist with a unique charisma, and tried to overlook the flaws that have brought him low.

Until the end, the US government viewed him as a fugitive from justice - but his move to Iceland meant he escaped the endgame of a public trial that could have destroyed the last vestiges of his reputation.

Source: BBCyezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-28700044024169791562008-01-28T23:24:00.000+05:302008-01-31T20:21:21.556+05:30What would you say to the person you were one year ago?Another long pending kelsa :D
Even if Sangee tagged me a long time ago, am sure this one is surely a gud topic to discuss netime of year...

So my turn of what would I say to the person I was a year ago...

2007 would add meaning to my life in terms of new mistakes and new lessons learnt(hopefully) ;)
Jokes apart, this has been one of the very adventurous years of my life. My prev blog did mention abt 20-20 but man 'o man I had never imagined such a well deserving victory. This is here to stay, I would want to believe that the majority of the cricket enthusiasts wud wanna agree to it. Wotever the case mebbe, as of now live the moment. We've won and thts wot matters for a team which is always in limelight for nethin other than the match results. Mebbe...u just heard smone say "let's meet at the cross roads of life"(such an over used sentence for every farewell mail!!!!!) and also for new ventures in their life. Its a laughin riot if one actually listens to them, and y wud i do that?? simply bcuz ur stuck in a queue and u hear 'em blurt out....." oh this so bad we need to bear with this yaar.....hamare wahan aise nahi hotha..yeh madraasi hain na..ufff!!" they go yak..yak...abt hw their place wuz perfect for 'em and Blore is like a sub std place, errr.....smone invited them here???

They think Himesh's songs are THE MOST happening topic and also go on to discuss abt how we shud have DJ nites wid Himesh's songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL...yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-30310671504238057652007-04-03T13:45:00.000+05:302007-04-03T13:48:17.719+05:30Blame game in WC '07....U knw smthin..we treat all of 'em commentin on cricket seriously and smwhere down the lane the truth gets hidden. If you actually observe even before blaming the coach, its time to check tht we havent done tht well abroad. That's a reality and an early exit in WC, wuz in a way necessary to end the dirty politics involved wid those fuddy duddies making their way thru in BCCI.

Like a post match presentation where the entire podium is filled wid so many officials and politicians, cricket has got into wrong hands.
Since its all abt money..honey, Cricket's become the beehive!!!!

Its a simple formula from my side,
Keep it simple..
Coach, Captain and the team decide and make rules.
The selection of team shud be independant of the state they come frm or the influence they have. It shud be purely performance and nothing more than tht.

Let the Victory cm in wid the right ingredient of hardwork, love for the game and then reaping appreciations and wealth makes sense.
Our memory's poor. We tend to forget the past soon. The next win for India or even for the 20-20 WC in SA, will again resurrect these "heroes" frm grave!!

I like the strategy only when it yields results, till then we shud be mindin our own business and leave it to the team to sort it out.
WC '07 shud be a lesson learnt for the Indian Cricket....yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-33221941922711255262007-01-05T12:22:00.000+05:302007-01-05T12:26:19.529+05:30His Magic lives in U and ME...Miracles dont happen all of a sudden, its a series of steps and constant belief which results in these kind of beautiful things. What we must realise that its the firm belief that is required all throughout the journey.

I am happy to speak about the greatest things that God has showered me with.Reason for my testimonial is not necessarily the highest level of satisfaction that God has catapulted me with. Its the sequence of HIS acts that has initiated this testimonial.

Friends, I realize what is considered as achievement for me may not be treated the same with you.Still..here we go.After taking up a job I realised there are next set of goals to achieve.Even if getting a job right after graduation wuz on my mind all the time.

And to make a decision of what to do next??I spoke to GOD and listened to him. This conversation that I share with the Almighty is wonderful. I'm grateful to my school teacher who taught me that art of listening to GOD rather than complaining about your situations.Who are we to let him know? So the best I could do is listen. There wuz this constant voice asking me to take up my higher studies or try for another challenging job.An instrument of God came in disguise. My friend who stood by me and I know he's God sent to this day.

I worked on my decisions and also applied in some of the companies too.And yes, its the best decision that would come my way.Even if it meant failure, that's just a learning phase. To cut it short, this new year I am offered a great job and also cleared one of the entrances for MBA.Wooohoo what more could I ask for??Jesus's greatest New year gift for a person like me and I definitely think I dont deserve so much love and affection from my all time FRIEND- JESUS.

Prayer has been a bond that strengthens everytime. Not necessarily the prayers or the constant hymns of praise but its a conversation that comforts me and tells me what to do..Welcome Jesus into your hearts like a friend, ...See what wonders we would have...yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-1161081526385878202006-10-17T16:06:00.000+05:302006-10-17T16:08:46.410+05:30Wotta Coincidence???"I believe that coincidence is the name people give to events that are intended to draw their attention to something more important.
So no, I don't feel there are any coincidences.I also know that we attract into our lives people who reflect our current emotional state. I'm not talking about our daily happy/sad, but rather, what really underlies us.

Are we insecure? Then most of the people we relate to will reflect that in some way. That's one example of many. Also, there's a saying called "A season, a reason, or a lifetime."People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

Then people come into your life for a SEASON because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons: things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life."yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-1149497531653241372006-06-05T14:20:00.000+05:302006-06-05T14:22:11.663+05:30Russell Peters Rulez........http://www.skattertech.com/2005/11/russell-peters-in-new-york-video/http://brown-guy.blogspot.com/2006/05/russell-peters-interview.htmlhttp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6802438413010363103&q=russell+peters

hey folks, check 'em out.
Not much that i'm gonna give away..yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24525811.post-1143019978025953322006-03-22T14:53:00.001+05:302008-12-29T12:22:06.132+05:30BE URSELF!!There are 3 kinds of people in this world(Definitely inspired by RDB)
The first one who know what they are exactly,
The second category who are trying to be someone else,
The third who are just simply nobody!!

Everyone needs to have an existence of their own.
All of them make choices from the beginning.
The point is to retain their identity in the entire process.yezdi3736http://www.blogger.com/profile/11002862820403374842noreply@blogger.com2
