This City and the ppl here hv always been in news for many unfortunate incidents in the recent past. But I must say, I strongly believe tht the average mumbaikar is no less than a hero literally. Yeah wot wid the entire bollywood in one place, but my definition of the hero wud be much more than the 70mm screen...

They hv seen it all, riots..blasts..natural disasters. Still not over, sm insane politicians getting cheap publicity out of the lower middle class society. The Thackerays need to be punished bcuz their war against non-marathis resulted in the death of an employee of HAL who himself wuz a marathi!!!!

So who are they fighting against??? 10,000 ppl hv already vacated the city and gone back to their "ROOTS"! At this age of globalization where does one belong???

Bobby Fischer, who has died at the age of 64 on Jan 17th, 2008 was a talented chess grandmaster once hailed as an American hero for breaking a Soviet dominance of the game that had lasted nearly 30 years.

Volatile and impetuous

Born in Chicago in 1943, Bobby Fischer was a chess genius from the beginning, playing from the age of eight.

He was US junior champion at 13 and open champion at 14, a title he won seven more times.

He became a grandmaster at 15, but was already showing himself to be volatile and impetuous, often turning up late for or walking out of matches.

His victory in 1972 was unexpected, as every world champion since World War II had been from the USSR, and seemed a foretaste of a promising career.

But the man who once said that "all I want to do, ever, is play chess" played precious little of it at international level after he won the world championship in Reykjavik in 1972.

Instead of capitalising on his win, Fischer withdrew from competition. Three years later, the World Chess Federation stripped him of his title for failing to defend it against Anatoly Karpov.

Since then, apart from the Fischer-Spassky rematch in Yugoslavia in 1992 that provoked the wrath of the US government, America's greatest chess player made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Reclusive

Until Fischer was detained in July 2004 while trying to leave Japan with a revoked US passport, his whereabouts had often been a mystery.

His reclusiveness, his anti-Semitic diatribes in radio interviews and - most unforgivably for his fellow countrymen - his support for the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US all tarnished his legend.

"This is all wonderful news. It is time to finish off the US once and for all," he told a radio station in the Philippines after learning of the attacks.


The former grandmaster did not age well

BBC journalist and chess expert David Edmonds, co-author of the book Bobby Fischer Goes To War, says Americans were profoundly shocked by the transformation.

"To many people, he had been an American icon in 1972. The match had been presented as a classic Cold War battle," he told the BBC News website.

"The Soviet Union had held the world chess title since World War II and chess was an enormously important propaganda tool. Lenin was a keen chess player, so was Trotsky - even Karl Marx himself played chess.

"Bobby Fischer was held up as an archetype after that, and many people view what has happened to him with great sadness. They feel he has been letting not only himself down, but the US down as well."

Certainly Fischer's behaviour in later years was irrational to such an extent that many questioned his sanity. He repeatedly claimed that he was being hounded by a Jewish conspiracy, despite the fact that his mother was Jewish.

Even in his heyday, he was known for making unreasonable demands at tournaments, complaining about everything from the lighting of the hall to the amount of prize money on offer.

Ruthless

Fischer also had a gladiatorial view of chess. "I like the moment when I break a man's ego," he once said in an interview, adding to the sense of theatre surrounding him that helped elevate the game from an obscure pastime to worldwide front-page news.

"He did enjoy humiliating his opponents. He could sense when his opponent was crumbling before him," says David Edmonds.

"But his style of playing was never flashy for the sake of showing off - it was clean, logical, ruthless and efficient. There was nothing ornamental about it," he says.

Despite the scale of his downfall, Fischer continued to inspire successive generations of chess players.

Many continued to see him as an artist with a unique charisma, and tried to overlook the flaws that have brought him low.

Until the end, the US government viewed him as a fugitive from justice - but his move to Iceland meant he escaped the endgame of a public trial that could have destroyed the last vestiges of his reputation.

So my turn of what would I say to the person I was a year ago...

2007 would add meaning to my life in terms of new mistakes and new lessons learnt(hopefully) ;)
Jokes apart, this has been one of the very adventurous years of my life. Adding to the list of my ever growing friends who are not just there adding numbers but essence to the bond of friendship!

One helluva journey its been wid lotsa excitement and opportunities.And its rolled up to the future as well on a very positive note.

Cricket's turning out to be the new soccer with T20!!!!!!

So the heroes have indeed risen frm nowhere. My prev blog did mention abt 20-20 but man 'o man I had never imagined such a well deserving victory. What after defeating Pakistan, England, SA and the mighty Australians in a row, luck had to be in our favor and it came in disguise of Misbah's poor selection of short in the end.

What an action packed drama 'twas..Mike Artherton the lesser known the better, after the Natwest Series had claimed that the Indian team should've been beaten by England much comprehensively. Now Mike, are u there???? Alright, most of the critics had written off the T20 format. Said, this isnt the real cricket....The real cricket is a barren cricket stadium, lot of time spent and no dance also!

Here we are, there interest in cricket has been revived again. This is here to stay, I would want to believe that the majority of the cricket enthusiasts wud wanna agree to it. Wotever the case mebbe, as of now live the moment. We've won and thts wot matters for a team which is always in limelight for nethin other than the match results. We've had lot of blame game, lot spoken of coaches, strategies and experience backing our side.

So its just another day at work, business as usual and what's new about it?? Mebbe...u just heard smone say "let's meet at the cross roads of life"(such an over used sentence for every farewell mail!!!!!) and also for new ventures in their life. Now they defi have somethin new that they anticipate which is for the majority a new place to carry on the crappy work all over again, in the bargain a few bucks more....

And there are always the doooooooooodes and "wanna be" babes!! Its a laughin riot if one actually listens to them, and y wud i do that?? simply bcuz ur stuck in a queue and u hear 'em blurt out....." oh this so bad we need to bear with this yaar.....hamare wahan aise nahi hotha..yeh madraasi hain na..ufff!!" they go yak..yak...abt hw their place wuz perfect for 'em and Blore is like a sub std place, errr.....smone invited them here???

They think Himesh's songs are THE MOST happening topic and also go on to discuss abt how we shud have DJ nites wid Himesh's songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blame game in WC '07....

U knw smthin..we treat all of 'em commentin on cricket seriously and smwhere down the lane the truth gets hidden. If you actually observe even before blaming the coach, its time to check tht we havent done tht well abroad. That's a reality and an early exit in WC, wuz in a way necessary to end the dirty politics involved wid those fuddy duddies making their way thru in BCCI.

Like a post match presentation where the entire podium is filled wid so many officials and politicians, cricket has got into wrong hands.
Since its all abt money..honey, Cricket's become the beehive!!!!

Its a simple formula from my side,
Keep it simple..
Coach, Captain and the team decide and make rules.
The selection of team shud be independant of the state they come frm or the influence they have. It shud be purely performance and nothing more than tht.

Let the Victory cm in wid the right ingredient of hardwork, love for the game and then reaping appreciations and wealth makes sense.
Our memory's poor. We tend to forget the past soon. The next win for India or even for the 20-20 WC in SA, will again resurrect these "heroes" frm grave!!

I like the strategy only when it yields results, till then we shud be mindin our own business and leave it to the team to sort it out.
WC '07 shud be a lesson learnt for the Indian Cricket....

His Magic lives in U and ME...

Miracles dont happen all of a sudden, its a series of steps and constant belief which results in these kind of beautiful things.What we must realise that its the firm belief that is required all throughout the journey.

I am happy to speak about the greatest things that God has showered me with.Reason for my testimonial is not necessarily the highest level of satisfaction that God has catapulted me with. Its the sequence of HIS acts that has initiated this testimonial.

Friends, I realize what is considered as achievement for me may not be treated the same with you.Still..here we go.After taking up a job I realised there are next set of goals to achieve.Even if getting a job right after graduation wuz on my mind all the time.

And to make a decision of what to do next??I spoke to GOD and listened to him. This conversation that I share with the Almighty is wonderful. I'm grateful to my school teacher who taught me that art of listening to GOD rather than complaining about your situations.Who are we to let him know? So the best I could do is listen.There wuz this constant voice asking me to take up my higher studies or try for another challenging job.An instrument of God came in disguise.My friend who stood by me and I know he's God sent to this day.

I worked on my decisions and also applied in some of the companies too.And yes, its the best decision that would come my way.Even if it meant failure, that's just a learning phase.To cut it short, this new year I am offered a great job and also cleared one of the entrances for MBA.Wooohoo what more could I ask for??Jesus's greatest New year gift for a person like me and I definitely think I dont deserve so much love and affection from my all time FRIEND- JESUS.

Prayer has been a bond that strengthens everytime.Not necessarily the prayers or the constant hymns of praise but its a conversation that comforts me and tells me what to do..Welcome Jesus into your hearts like a friend, ...See what wonders we would have...

Wotta Coincidence???
